I remember gettin in a fight one night and there he was "Now there aint no sense in that" he said and all of the sudden there was calm......

Grady was about 4 or 5 and we lived in Hawkins out in the woods surrounded by a lot of pine trees, one day I was in the house with Mom and Tina I think, Travis was still in diapers.  Anyway, Grady sticks his little head in the door and wants to show us the "worm" he caught.......Mom almost had a heart attack, It was a baby ground rattler, and he was showing it so proudly to us.........I think about that cute innocent face and still see it in every picture i have, the mischevious twinkle never changed he just got better lookin with age!!!!

I remember jumping out of the top of the barn just to prove that I was as brave as Grady and being scared to death of the height or that Mom would catch us, walking what seemed like miles into the bottom "exploring" and not being worried  because I knew that Grady  & Travis would be able to get us home.   In a lot of ways he was more of a big brother than a little one.  I used to call him to ask for his thoughts on something that was bugging me or that I was pissed about and he usually said something that made me laugh and made me realize that there really wasn't anything to be pissed about.  His presence gave me a "hey, everything is gonna be alright" feeling.  Hearing  "Mule barn head ass speakin"  every time I called.  He never told me his problems but always asked about mine...wish I would have been more meddelsome.   Rest assured people I will not make that mistake twice........

I have so very many fond memories of Grady that it's hard to pick which ones to share here. But probably my 2nd favorite memory of Grady was Christmas of 1999. I was already in the Navy and living in California. And I hadn't seen Grady since I joined in Dec. 1997. Well I came home for Christmas in 99 and I surprised Carl Wayne at his house and he called Grady over at Ticha's parents house where they were having dinner. I got on the phone with Grady and he couldn't believe I was home. He told me to stay at Carl Wayne's and he'd be there as soon as he finished dinner. When Grady got to Carl Wayne's house he was so excited about me getting to meet his little girl. Averi was only 2 at the time I believe. She was so little and just to cute. You could tell how much Grady loved that little girl. He fawned over her and he just glowed whenever he looked at her. It was the most precious thing I'd ever seen. I remember playing with Averi that night and thinking how she was just as friendly as her daddy. She met me and you'd have thought she'd known me forever. I'd never seen Grady look so happy before.  I know I'll never, ever forget how happy he was when he held his baby girl.

I've got so many memories to choose from. Most of the best times I've ever had were with Grady, Michael, Carl Wayne and Roxy back roadin' in Michael's truck. Me stuck between Michael and Grady and Roxy sitting on Carl Wayne's lap. Good times!!

I guess one of my favorite memories of Grady was when we got fixed up on a date to go to the Rain's County Fair. I get to Max-a-Mart where I am suppose to be meeting Grady. When he sees me he comes over puts his hat on my head and hands me his drink. Asks me to hold his stuff and tells me he'll be right back. Well I follow to see where he is running off to. There he is getting ready to fight this guy who was twice his size. Grady starts dancing around like a boxer and tells this big ole boy its time to dance. Well Grady starts talking to the guy...asking him if he wants the left or the right (as he holds up his fists) and he asks this a couple of times and finally Grady hits the guy first with his left then with his right. And he tells the guy he didn't pick quick enough so he got em both. This happens a couple more times and finally the big guy walks off and Grady wins the fight without ever being touched. He strolls back over to me, takes his drink, puts his arm around me and says "hey! how are you doing? Ready to go to the fair?"

This is just the first of many of my memories. But it was a pretty impressive first impression for a 19 year old girl. I was in total awe of him everyday after that.
